Guests traveling from the United States, Canada or Mexico should arrive in Sicily no later than August 31. The celebrations begin September 1.

Flights from North America to Europe generally fly overnight and land on the following calendar day. If you leave Texas on August 30, you will normally arrive in Europe on August 31.

Allow extra time for delays, missed connections and jet lag. Do not plan to arrive on the day the celebrations begin. If you can arrive earlier and turn the wedding into a longer Italian vacation, even better.

Your final destination

Search from your home airport to Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO). There are no direct flights from Texas to Palermo, so expect at least one connection. Book the complete itinerary together—you do not need to purchase each flight separately.

Your connection may be through Rome, Milan, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Madrid, London or another European hub. Avoid very short international connections: allow time for immigration, security, terminal changes and unfamiliar airports.

Do I need to stay overnight during my connection?

No. Most guests can connect in Europe and continue directly to Palermo. A night or two in the connecting city is optional if you would enjoy breaking up the journey.

What about Trapani?

Trapani–Birgi Airport (TPS) is also about 52 km from the venue and may suit some itineraries, but Palermo generally offers more practical options from North America. We do not recommend Catania; it is on the other side of Sicily.

After landing, allow approximately 45–60 minutes by car to reach Scopello. We recommend either:

• Renting a car if you want independence and plan to explore Sicily
• Reserving a private transfer if you are not comfortable driving in Italy

Please do not rely on Uber around Scopello. Book your car or transfer well in advance because September remains a busy travel period.

• Reserve an automatic transmission unless you are comfortable driving manual; automatics are less common and should be booked early
• Choose a small or medium-size car; Sicilian streets and parking spaces are much narrower than those in Texas
• Check Italian driver’s-license and international driving-permit requirements well before traveling
• Download Google Maps and the Sicily area for offline use before leaving the airport
• Never leave luggage or valuables visible in a parked car

Highways are generally straightforward, but roads become narrower inside towns and villages. Drive slowly and expect a different pace from home.

Historic centers may contain ZTLs—Zona a Traffico Limitato. These restricted zones are monitored by cameras. Do not enter unless you know your vehicle is authorized.

Stay in or near Scopello or Castellammare del Golfo so you remain close to the festivities and planned transportation areas. Review our Where to stay recommendations before booking.

For wedding clothing, see the Dress code section. Tonnara di Scopello is a historic seaside property with natural stone and uneven ground, so keep the terrain in mind when choosing shoes.

U.S., Canadian and Mexican guests need a valid passport to travel to Italy. If you do not have one, apply well before 2027 rather than waiting until the wedding approaches.

Entry rules can change. Check the official Italian and European requirements for your nationality before traveling; we will update the website closer to the wedding if a European travel authorization is required.

Keep your passport with you while traveling—never put it in checked luggage.

Italy uses the euro (€). Cards are widely accepted, but carry a small amount of cash for cafés, parking and small purchases.

• Tell your bank you are traveling if required
• Check foreign-transaction fees and know your card PIN
• Bring at least two payment methods and keep them separately
• If a terminal or ATM offers dollars or euros, choose euros

Check whether your phone plan includes international data. Options include your carrier’s international plan, an international eSIM, or a European SIM/eSIM.

• Google Maps for navigation—download Sicily for offline use
• Google Translate for translations
• WhatsApp, commonly used in Italy
• Your airline’s app for boarding passes and flight updates

Make sure you will have mobile data when you land.

Italy uses Type C, F and L outlets and 230V electricity. American plugs require a European/Italian adapter.

Most modern phone and laptop chargers accept both voltages, but check the device label. An adapter only changes the plug shape—it does not convert voltage. American hair dryers and curling irons may not be compatible, so check carefully or leave them at home.

Scopello has natural stone, cobblestones and uneven surfaces, so keep the terrain in mind when choosing shoes.

Pack your wedding outfit, essential shoes, medications and valuables in your carry-on. Checked bags can be delayed, particularly on connecting international itineraries.

Bring enough prescription medication for the whole trip plus a little extra for delays. Keep it in your carry-on and, when possible, in its original labeled packaging.
